A month and five days after deciding the title of the Paulista Championship of 2019, Corinthians and São Paulo met again, this time in the Brazilian Championship. And just as it happened in the state’s decision, Corinthians got the best of it. The black and white team beat the rival 1-0, goal of Pedrinho in the match played yesterday at the Corinthians Arena, and reached 11 points in the third place of the national tournament. The Tricolor appears one position down, with 11.

From the beginning of the match, the team led by Fábio Carille showed more disposition than the rival in the search to open the scoring. And just after six minutes, Pedrinho ventured out of the area, the ball hit defender Arboleda and cheated goalkeeper Thiago Volpi. 1-0 for Corinthians.
With the advantage, the owners of the house did not expose themselves to the attack, thinking first to defend themselves, to risk later on against attacks. Sao Paulo tried, but could not create chances of goal. And it still had an unfortunate afternoon of its main players. Antony and Alexandre Pato, who for the first time reunited the rival after controversial passage by the club, had discreet performances.
Only by “cooking” the opponent, Corinthians managed to take the lead for the break. However, in the second half, Sao Paulo managed to improve discreetly in the offensive system. Despite more time with the ball on their feet, the team of coach Cuca could not create chances easily, sinning excessively at the time of finalizations. Pato had a good chance on the side of the visitors, and Gustavo, Gustagol, for Corinthians. Both, to no avail.

In the end, the referee Flávio Rodrigues de Souza expelled the midfielder Hernanes, of  São Paulo, by a possible elbow on Sornoza, of Corinthians. But after seeing the bid through the VAR, it was confirmed there was no intention of Sao Paulo midfielder in purposely reaching the rival. Thus, the expulsion was canceled. And the score ended with Corinthians’ 1-0 win.
